US$5 billion Africa Energy Bank (AEB) held its inaugural Annual General Meeting, at which shareholders representing the Class A subscribers approved key resolutions critical to the Bank’s institutional establishment and commencement of operations.

Today marks a defining milestone in Africa’s energy and financial architecture.

The US$5 billion Africa Energy Bank (AEB) held its inaugural Annual General Meeting, at which shareholders representing the Class A subscribers approved key resolutions critical to the Bank’s institutional establishment and commencement of operations.

These included the appointment of the Bank’s President and Directors, initial equity subscriptions, external auditors, and the ratification of its establishment documents, the Charter and the Headquarters Agreement.

Most significantly, 4 January 2027 was approved as the Bank’s official operational commencement date.

The Africa Energy Bank is conceived as an independent supranational financial institution dedicated to addressing one of Africa’s most persistent development challenges: the financing gap confronting its energy sector.

With its mandate spanning hydrocarbons, oil and gas infrastructure, energy trading and renewable energy, the Bank has the potential to mobilise capital, unlock strategic investments, strengthen regional energy security and support sustainable economic development across the continent.

For Nigeria, securing the Bank’s headquarters represents an important strategic achievement and an opportunity to deepen its position as a financial and energy investment hub.

This milestone is also the culmination of an important continental collaboration involving the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), participating member countries and industry institutions.

We recognise the contributions of all those who have worked to bring this vision to reality, including:

Nigeria | APPO | Afreximbank | Africa Energy Bank | RHG Advisory | TMB | Angola | Côte d’Ivoire | Senegal | NNPC Ltd | NCDMB | NUPRC | NMDPRA | PTDF.

For RHG Advisory, this milestone represents an important chapter in our contribution to the development of Africa’s energy financing architecture, including our work supporting APPO and Nigeria’s successful bid to host the Africa Energy Bank.

The next chapter is about execution.

Africa must move beyond the abundance of its natural resources to building the financial institutions, infrastructure and markets capable of converting those resources into prosperity, industrialisation, employment and opportunity for the next generation.

The Africa Energy Bank is an important instrument in that journey.

Congratulations to Nigeria, APPO, Afreximbank and all participating partners.

Africa must build, finance and secure its own energy future. RHG Advisory | TMB Consortium African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) African Petroleum Producers’ Organization
